Coastal Navigation (ASA 105)

Learn the navigational theory and practical skills required for the safe navigation of a sailing vessel in coastal and inland waters.

Prerequisites:
No prior experience is required. Students must be 18 years or older.

Class Size:
Maximum of 8 students. A minimum of 4 students is required to run the course.

Tipping: Tipping your instructor is customary within the industry, typically ranging from 10% to 20% of the course fee, and is greatly appreciated!

Five consecutive Tuesday evenings 6.30-9.30pm

Course Content:

  • Understanding paper charts and navigation tools
  • Fixing a position: dead reckoning, estimated position, 3-point fix, running fix, radar fix
  • Currents and tidal calculations
  • Navigation Rules (Rules of the Road)
  • Navigation in limited visibility
  • Use of electronic charts
